Build and spend deliberately
Use safe damaging hits that already advance the turn. Do not keep a dangerous enemy alive only to gain another point. When the meter is near its limit, an available useful spend can make room before the next expected damaging hit.
The current rules do not promise that every Special Action remains usable after all AP is spent. Check the live action and displayed cost before building the turn around it.
Name the payoff before spending
Choose the target, the intended board change, and the squad’s next action. A full meter does not make an unfocused spend valuable.
Set up Call for Backup
The current rule says: Request Backup from any chosen teammate. Allies providing backup will Assist this Operator's next attack. Choose the requester, target, and available teammates in the current selection UI. If an expected ally is absent, preserve the resource and do not invent a cause from distance, line of sight, status, weapon, or reaction state unless the interface states it.
Backup is complete when the chosen teammates assist the requester’s next attack against the intended target. If the target or selection changes before confirmation, rebuild the plan from the current interface.

Verify the spend
Read the displayed cost and predict the meter afterward. Confirm that the intended target or area changed, then check whether the next damaging hit adds 1 without exceeding the maximum. For Backup, record the selected allies and whether they assisted the requester’s next attack.
If the spend is unavailable or no longer improves the board, keep Advantage, take a routine action, and return after the target or squad state changes.
